Neel Makhecha

Welcome to my little space on this vast internet!

I am a graduate student majoring in Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. I am also an indie mobile applications developer with more than 100,000 app downloads across App Store and Google Play, Apple WWDC 2019 Scholarship Recipient, and Apple's worldwide Swift Student Challenge 2020 Winner.

During summer 2020, I was selected as a Student Developer under a popular open-source program by Google called Google Summer of Code. Over the period of three months, I worked with the International Catrobat Association, located at the Graz University of Technology, Austria, for the development of a visual programming language for iOS called Catrobat. In winter 2021, I worked with them again independently for my final year undergrad project.

If you would like to get in touch for an opportunity for me, want to discuss an amazing project idea, or just want to say hi, I would love to hear it!

Highlights

Mobirise

Apple Swift Student Challenge 2020 Award

Designed and developed a game using SwiftUI and UIKit where players architect complex 2D objects using basic shapes by repositioning and adjusting shape-specific parameters. These objects are processed and scored using CoreImage and a custom CoreML model. This project was one of the 350 projects worldwide to win Apple Swift Student Challenge 2020 Winner!

Mobirise

Apple WWDC 2019 Scholarship

Designed and developed a Mac app using AppKit and SpriteKit, where users can interactively create
skeuomorphic flowcharts by pasting virtual sticky notes on a canvas. Using simple graph traversal techniques, the structure of the program is determined, and then the instructions in each shape is transformed into Swift statements using NLP and Core ML. This project was one of the 350 projects worldwide to win Apple WWDC 2019 Scholarship!

Mobirise

First Prize, University-wide Object Oriented Programming Project Competition

Designed and developed mod ZERO - a SpriteKit based math game with 6 different stages, peer-to-peer Duet Play, enabled using MultipeerConnectivity, online Game Center leaderboards, Haptics, and more. Received 11,000+ worldwide on the App Store. This project was ranked 1st out of 700+ participants to win a university-wide project competition in my freshman year.

Some Interesting Stats

100,000+

App Downloads
The personal projects that I have worked on not only helped me gain hands-on experience of what I learn in the class, but also have tried to solve real-world problems. As a result, these apps have impacted thousands of users around the world!

1,500+

Ratings and Reviews
These 1500 ratings averaged 4.6 stars, so it's mostly positive, which is certainly encouraging. However, the negative feedback helped me improve even more and pushed me to deliver the best of the best!
